Dog owners need not worry. So far there is no scientifically serious evidence that our pets could be infected or carry the pathogen. This is also confirmed by the World Health Organization (WHO) on its Q&A website with special reference to dogs and cats

Although virologists suspect that the virus only made the leap from bats or pangolin to humans a few weeks ago. However, this does not mean that the pathogen can switch to other animals in the short term. Virological research even assumes that it is almost impossible for a corona virus to jump over several species in such a short time.
   False alarm in Hong Kong?
According to experts at the Friedrich Löffler Institute (FLI), the Federal Research Institute for Animal Health, the dog that was allegedly tested positive for Covid-19 in Hong Kong must be a passive sample contamination. The dog itself did not show any symptoms of disease and was still being monitored in an isolation ward. However, his owner was clearly infected and a carrier of the virus. Only small traces of the pathogen were found in her dog, presumably due to close contact with its owner.

No danger - even vice versa?
Anyone who is now worried about the reverse route of infection can be reassured for the time being. There is also no scientifically verifiable evidence that we humans can infect our pets with the virus. Dogs will probably not become ill with the corona virus.
According to information from the FLI experts, even corona infected dogs in quarantine do not need to separate or isolate themselves from their pets. However, they should not have their face licked off by their four-legged friends and ask neighbours or friends for help in caring for the animals. For example, when taking a walk or shopping for food. This is the only way they can successfully avoid contact with other people during the quarantine period and prevent the transmission of the pathogen to other people.

So if you like to cuddle your dog, you can continue to do so without worrying if you observe the principles of hygiene that are recommended anyway. This means that anyone who has contact with animals should always wash their hands thoroughly with soap afterwards. This is advisable during the Covid-19 pandemic anyway. Apart from affection, nothing else will probably be exchanged between you and your dog.

  Science is uncertain
Whether dogs can feel real love for their humans is very controversial among scientists. But a dog's head is not very different from ours. The brains of dogs and humans are built from similar structures. However, there are different "priorities". The differences are mainly found in the cortex, the cerebral cortex. Animal researchers assume that the main difference between humans and dogs is that the communication of the cerebral cortex with the other brain regions is not as well developed in dogs as in humans.

  T he consciousness of self
One thing is certain: Dogs can recognize people very well by their faces and read and understand their feelings and moods from their facial expressions. But they do not recognize themselves in a mirror. For a long time science assumed that they lack the so-called ego-consciousness. A prerequisite for being able to develop real feelings. Today we know that dogs do not pass the so-called mirror test because, unlike humans or apes, they do not have to rely on their sense of sight as their main source of information. The own identity and the identity of others is mainly determined by dogs by their sense of smell and hearing. Dogs could therefore actually have an ego-consciousness.

  Hormones
The hormone balance may allow conclusions to be drawn as to whether the dog's affection could be love. Researchers from the Japanese universities of Tokyo and Kanagawa have found that dogs release the hormone oxytocin more when they spend time with their owners or with other dogs of the same species. This so-called "cuddling hormone" also influences the binding behavior in humans. It increases our willingness to get closer to others or to trust them.

  Romance
For the scientists at the Max Planck Institute for Human History in Jena, love is always based on a romantic feeling. But this goes far beyond the cooperative, communicative and cognitive abilities of dogs. Therefore, they doubt that the affection of dogs for humans could be love.

  My pawfect Valentine
The fact that dogs can feel emotions and show their feelings is considered by researchers to be largely confirmed. This is shown by numerous studies by brain and behavioural researchers. Presumably this also applies to feelings such as fear, joy, sadness and suffering. But whether they can also feel love is difficult for us humans to fathom and there is no objective, scientifically reliable evidence for this yet.
But most dog owners do not need this evidence at all.

The products also have padding protection, which makes them very easy to care for when washed. They also dry quickly.
These toys are ideal for dogs with particularly aggressive chewing behaviour.

                <![CDATA[
Can ground cold make the dog sick?
The feeling of comfort in a living room for dogs does not only depend on the air temperature indicated by the thermometer. The temperatures of the walls, ceilings and floors also contribute to this. Like the human body, the dog's body reacts very sensitively to differences in temperature and, above all, to drafts entering through leaking windows and doors. And unfortunately not every home has underfloor heating.
  Is draught a risk?
Draughts or lying on a cool floor can lead to illnesses such as cystitis or a weakening of the immune system. Since dog beds usually lie on the floor, dogs are exposed to these negative influences especially in the winter months. Some dog breeds can protect themselves with their winter coat in the cold season; many have a natural coat change. The top coat and undercoat form longer and thicker hairs in autumn than in spring and keep the dog pleasantly warm even in the cold season. Breeds with short fur and no undercoat lack this natural protection.
  Some breeds are particularly sensitive
In Rhodesian rigdebacks or Podencos, for example, the warmer climate is "anchored in the genes", which is why they do not cope so well with the cold. Even in summer they like to lie under a warm blanket. The thin fur of Dobermann, Boxer or Weimaraner dogs can also not protect so well against cold and draughts. The same applies to shorn dogs. Sighthounds have only a thin coat of hair and do not develop any protective fat pads against cold. Since it gets cold very quickly, a warming blanket or a natural or synthetic fur can often help.
Small dogs have a handycap in winter
Also short-legged dogs, like dachshunds, or French Bulldogs are more exposed to the ground-cold than its high-legged relatives. Observe your dog whether he has problems with it or not! Small breeds lose body heat faster than large breeds. The larger body surface allows them to cool down faster in relation to the body volume. In addition, sick or very old dogs often need more warmth than healthy dogs because they are less agile and can move less.
Good reasons for a cuddly blanket
With all these dogs it can be necessary to give them in the cold season in the sleeping place additional protection with a comfortably warming cuddly blanket or a fur.
